Celebrating their 15th year in the craft and the centennial of their Texas Fireproof Storage building – a resilient structure that withstood the 1953 tornado – this whiskey is steeped in history and tradition.
In a nod to the past, the Balcones team embarked on a journey to bodegas where they discovered a 100-year-old puncheon that once matured a historic and somewhat forgotten sherry, Vino de Color. This sherry was traditionally used as a blending component in sherry production, known for its ability to impart acidity, tannin, color, and depth to the blends. The decision to use this puncheon for finishing their Texas Single Malt is both innovative and respectful of historical practices.
The result of marrying their Texas Single Malt with this unique and complex puncheon is a whiskey that is rich in flavor and layered in complexity. This process enhances the whiskey with nuanced notes of dried fruits, nuts, and spices typical of sherry cask maturation, while also adding unique characteristics from the Vino de Color puncheon.
